Some in our Online Think Tank have mentioned that they wonder if people are getting stupider these days. Actually, these members who say that make me smile because in the short time I have known them, well I guarantee you they are getting smarter. But let’s take a look at their question for a moment; Are people getting dumber?
Well, let’s look at the evening news, not much their, shorter news clips, more commercials, lots of repetition, people still watch it? Hmm? Indeed, it is possible that a gap is widening in society, where some are getting smarter and others are letting their brains melt. One member says “we need to wake people up and teach them to think!”
One of the things that business owners dread most is the task of firing an employee. Well, there is another dread of business owners that is similar to that and it is the firing of a client or customer. The issue of firing a client or customer, or in other words ”letting go of a client or customer, is a real issue faced by all business owners. And I know from first hand experience that this is true. In my 25 years of business, I have “fired” clients and I have learned the strategic value of doing so. In those 25 years of business, I have realized that not every client is the right or ideal client for me and that I have tried to become much more strategic in prospecting for and selecting my clients.
Image is about more than just the clothes we wear. Over half the impression we give other people comes from our overall visual appearance which includes body language, posture, facial expression and yes, what we’re wearing and how we’re wearing it. All of these things tell other people a lot about who we are.
It is a basic human quality to want to be around people who are similar to us. Our closest friends are usually people who are in similar circumstances to our own and have similar interests and backgrounds.
Happiness is the one thing most of us seek after and for many it remains a lifelong quest. Chances are you want to be happy all the time but that is unlikely to happen. But what if you could attain consistent and sustained happiness most of the time, wouldn’t that be great? What if you could unlock those critical factors that would bring you increased happiness in your life.
Everything in existence owes its existence to a life force current, or spirit, that animates its existence. The same energy that causes my heart to beat is causing your heart to beat. The same innate intelligence that is directing the movement of every atom, molecule and cell of your body, is also directing the movement of every being, planet, star and galaxy. And the same volition that is compelling me to write these words for you to read has moved you to read them.
Choosing a quiet place to relax is as important as relaxation itself,
And of course dedicated to the most loved person in your life…you~you~yourself.
A favourite couch, chair, sofa……bed….
Soft easy soothing music playing in the background.
Ease yourself into your most comfortable position,
Closing your eyes and after a few moments, quieting your mind.
You are in your secret garden alone, and enriching your being.
Enjoying the beauties of nature all around you.
In your minds eye, you are walking, looking, touching, embracing the scene.
Azaleas and rose bushes and many varieties of blooms and shrubs
To suit your fancy, what ever you desire is there for your eyes to relish on.
In one corner sits a greenhouse filled with a 100 varieties of orchids.
All your senses are totally emancipated:
Exquisite colors excite your eyes,
Enchanting fragrances soothe your sense of smell;
Soft velvety petals titillate your touch;
Magical Beauty speaks to you in telepathic waves quieting your voice and hearing;
No need to walk as everywhere around you, all is within your reach.
Each tune that plays compliments and comforts a particular sense.
Your Secret Garden is your utopia living within, revitalizing,
refreshing and you drift away.
Your mind capturing the peace, enticing it to stay,
slowly, slowly your breathing remains steady….
Trancelike you feel totally refreshed, and with one last look at your Secret Garden,
absorbing in the peace and beauty all around,
In this story you are an infant. One of your parents, let’s say your mother, is holding you. (In a classic fairy tale you would be a golden haired princess and you would be being held prisoner by an evil witch, but we’re on a budget, so we’ll do the common person’s fairy tale.) Your mother is struggling with her personal issues and although she is doing the best she can, she cannot give you the attention you need. That means that she cannot hold you as securely as you need. Feeling insecure, you naturally wonder if she is acting like this because there is something undesirable about you. After all, if you were really valued she would treat you with greater consideration. (When the love that a child needs is withheld the child naturally questions her worthiness. It is in the nature of all of us, but it is acute in children.)
“Nothing is so fatiguing as the eternal hanging on of an uncompleted task.” ~William James
We all have uncompleted tasks, some of which can nag and prick at us like burrs. Perhaps it’s a squeaky door that you mean to oil, a button that needs sewing on, papers that need to be filed, a letter to be written, laundry to be folded, and on and on.
These uncompleted tasks are just part of life. But when they pile up, undone for a long time, they negatively affect our energy and our ability to take action to complete the tasks. So why don’t we just complete the tasks?
Here are some possible reasons for our procrastination:
I am a firm believer that everyone needs to have a sense of humor about themselves. I am the first to admit that (at times) I take life WAY too seriously, and I think that’s probably true about many people. My kids need me, my mother needs me, my sister, my friends, my bills, my personal development, my housework, my personal hygiene, my cat, the kids’ schoolwork, the plants…admit it, some days it gets to be overwhelming and you don’t know how much more you can handle.
