Rural Think Tanks And The Sunday Evening Fire Side Chat

The Online Think Tank like other think tanks poses topics and subjects to the population and then reasons thru many potential solutions to each challenge that faces mankind. It is amazing that most of the human conflicts in the present period exist only due to perception, differences in culture or variations of society, which have been refined over 100s if not thousands of years.

Recently in our fire-side chat we discussed Democracy, Communism, Socialism and a Republic based democracy as a system of government - what is freedom, that indeed was the question.

What is Freedom, are we really free? Well, if you believe you are free than this is your definition of free and therefore you are. It is a perspective based argument. True Freedom for all is problematic when the population is so divided, as the rest of the population may vote against your definition of Freedom in a Democracy for their definition, thus they believe they are free and thus are and you believe you are not free, so you are not. Are you willing to give up your personal rights for that of the mob?

How can a nation have true democracy when the minds of its people are polluted with either mass media manipulation or insidious indoctrination. A true Democracy cannot exist in reality unless the populous agrees in advance on the decisions of the whole or mob and only when that mob is of stable and sound mind. Interesting how an open-air evening discussion can turn into such and intellectual topic, of course I am paraphrasing as the talk went on for hours.

Freedom is key to any society or civilization, but then again so is clean air and water. If all the water is polluted then human health suffers along with plants and other animals. What can we do to clean the rivers in China or the 280 miles of dead zones off the coasts of super-cities like Beijing or Shanghai? Our Online Think Tank considered this and came up with a possible solution.

What if we developed aeration propellers using cavitation techniques to put oxygen into the water, revive aquatic life, and eliminate the dead zones; and not just in China, but in the United States too; How about the Dead Zones off the costs in the US. What about the problems in Malibu and Santa Monica, CA. “Heal the Bay” or cleaning up the Chesapeake River Watershed? Think on this as we move to the next topic at hand.

Similarly related to the healing of the environment or in the pursuit of freedom is public policy, but what happens when the “Official Policy” is not really the actual policy? For instance what happens when the government, an industry or a group of people pretend to do one thing and do the exact opposite? What happens for instance when a government touts free-enterprise and then squashes up and coming businesses at the request of infiltrated lobbyists who bribe politicians? What happens when the government regulating bodies are used against a business due to a competitor, which is weak, inefficient or unable to compete in the free-market.

In this case the free-market is no longer the free market, but rather the exact opposite and has been dirtied by the very advocate of the theory of free-markets. When this happens, as Adam Smith warned us, then that government lives a lie. Perhaps this is also worthy of thought and well that is that, thanks for listening at our Fire Side Chat.
