Happiness is the one thing most of us seek after and for many it remains a lifelong quest. Chances are you want to be happy all the time but that is unlikely to happen. But what if you could attain consistent and sustained happiness most of the time, wouldn’t that be great? What if you could unlock those critical factors that would bring you increased happiness in your life.
Any self respecting goal setter knows that achieving a goal will inevitably involve learning new skills. No matter what you set out to do, you will have to gain new capabilities and new understanding about yourself along the way.
Expanding your personal skill set is a big part of the pleasure and the challenge of being an effective goal setter, which is why it makes perfect sense to include a learning target in your everyday planning.
Here is why self education should be part of your daily ritual and how to ensure that it is.
Sometimes you feel like you REALLY got to change something. Maybe it’s an annoying habit. Maybe it’s more serious. Maybe it’s losing weight, or stopping smoking. Whatever it is, you just get fed up with the situation. You’re motivated to change.
SOMETHING’S GOTTA GIVE!
Maybe it’s occurred to you - either you think of it yourself, or you read it somewhere - Draw A Line In The Sand!
And step over it. And things just change.
It’s tempting. Especially if you’re really exasperated. While it can work, it often doesn’t. Here’s why:
Frustrated by traffic jams, over-crowded malls, having only 24 hours in a day? Do you complain about your boss, your partner, your kids and a lack of anything really meaningful in your life? Difficulties such as these often take over our lives and become our focal point.
These difficulties create a desire in us for more peace, more money, a quieter and slower way of life. We look for the things that we believe will fill us up, that essence that seems to be missing within us.
One of my favorite past times is observing tourists who come to visit my home town of New York City. Now this may seem a little bizarre but I discovered by indulging in this little quirky hobby, I was able to look at my place of residence through a new set of eyes. For example, I started to look at the skyscrapers just as they do and was awed by some of the detail and beautiful architecture. Some truly are a work of art. It was a little alarming to think how many times I had passed right by these same buildings and never really noticed them. It got me thinking where else in my life I had been “passing by” without paying much attention.
