“Nothing is so fatiguing as the eternal hanging on of an uncompleted task.” ~William James
We all have uncompleted tasks, some of which can nag and prick at us like burrs. Perhaps it’s a squeaky door that you mean to oil, a button that needs sewing on, papers that need to be filed, a letter to be written, laundry to be folded, and on and on.
These uncompleted tasks are just part of life. But when they pile up, undone for a long time, they negatively affect our energy and our ability to take action to complete the tasks. So why don’t we just complete the tasks?
Here are some possible reasons for our procrastination:

Assign Tasks to Kids
Do not underestimate the potential of your kids. Kids can handle some task that you do not have time to do: filing, recording messages, paper shredding documents, etc. My 15 year old daughter is responsible for inputting information from business cards that I collect from meetings, into my contact management system, proof reading documents, filing, typing and other small administrative task. She loves it and it gives her great employability skills and inclusion in my business. It is a great way for kids to receive an allowance and special privileges. It allows me to concentrate on other task without having to hire someone.
Through the years I’ve seen versions of Household Rules printed on posters, mugs and the like. You may know it, here are some of the words:
· If you get it out, put it up.
· If you sleep on it, make it up.
· If you wear it, hang it up.
· If you drop it, pick it up.
· If you dirty it, wash it.
· If you open it, close it.
· If you turn it on, turn it off.
You have an internal clock that you are born with. When you try to fight and work against your internal clock it’s an uphill struggle that dramatically reduces your productivity. The simple truth is that when you try to work against your internal clock it takes you much longer to accomplish the task at hand, and you are much more likely to make frequent mistakes that cause you to have to do a lot of reworking. Working against your internal clock is a poor time management strategy.
I. Time Management is a key skill
Time is probably the most precious resource we have. Balancing a busy work life with a busy personal life can be more enjoyable if you develop the skills necessary to manage your time effectively. There is the need to keep up to date with what is happening in your work, your business, your market, your industry, and of course there are those personal obligations. We find it difficult to say “no” to extra demands that are placed on us, but the solution is within our control. To avoid stress and avoid disappointing those to whom we have made commitment we must manage our time effectively. If you make a commitment to deliver an item or service to a customer, and don’t meet that obligation, it is like saying, “I have found someone more important than you”. Do you think you will retain their custom?

Punctuality is a big deal in time management. Everyone is late sometimes, right? Yes, most people are occasionally late and when they are it’s because of an unexpected occurrence. But when you are habitually late punctuality is an issue you need to address.
When you aren’t punctual you set yourself up for escalating levels of stress. When you start the day late you tend to run late the entire day. Even though you may not place a high value on punctuality, recognize that others do. Lateness can lose you the sale, cost you the job, diminish the level of respect the other person has for you because they are thinking that if you can’t even be counted on to be on time how can they count on you for something important.
