Travelling whilst pregnant can be a daunting prospect as you are never quite sure about the safety factors involved for you and your baby. Obviously before you travel the most important thing is to seek your doctor’s medical advice, but assuming all is well then the next thing to think about is travel insurance.
Pregnant women can often find it difficult to find the right travel cover for all their pregnancy needs, also some airlines have restrictions for pregnant women, regardless of which holiday insurance you have, so it is best to check with your airline prior to purchasing. Some airlines may require a letter from your doctor stating you are fit to travel and confirming your estimated due date.
Before you proceed to purchase your policy you need to ensure you have adequate coverage in the event of a claim. For example if you are having a multiple birth ensure that you are covered for this on your insurance and not just for a single birth as it is essential that you take out a policy to cover your requirements. If you have booked a package holiday, travel insurance can be included in the price but may not cover for your specific requirements whilst you are pregnant, so you will need to make sure that you take out adequate pregnant holiday insurance. Some policies may cover for medical emergencies whilst on holiday but may not cover specifically for losses incurred by pregnant women, for example in the event that you need to cancel as a direct result of your pregnancy.
