Stress can become an even bigger problem during the holidays. With the added tasks of shopping for presents, preparing food for many people, and dealing with friends and family members, the stress level in your body can build to a dangerous level.
Our bodies need to feel stress in case of an emergency. This goes all the way back to our caveman days, when we were forced to flee from wild animals and search for food and shelter on a daily basis in life threatening situations.
Those days are over. Our present day lives may be rushed and full of activities but our lives are seldom in danger. We now need to focus on staying calm and feeling more relaxed every minute that we possibly can. This keeps your blood pressure down to a safe level and can also keep you from aging prematurely. It is worth it to investigate the many ways to reduce or complexly eliminate stress from your life.
Meditation is a great way to calm and de-stress your entire mind and body. It will take time to get used to quieting your mind, so you need to start out by doing it for only a few minutes at a time. After a few weeks of doing this you will be able to meditate for longer periods of time.
If you have a family situation that is particularly stressful, sit your family members down and discuss it with them honestly so that they know how serious stress can be. This will help them to be more understanding and supportive when you need some quiet time for yourself.
