There is not one person in the world who has not laughed at least once in their life. Why?
Life in and of itself is funny. I am going to share seven (7) reasons why humorous speakers laugh all the way to the bank and how you can cash in as well:
1.) Life is too serious, laughter provides balance in life and is healthy.
2.) Humorous speakers know how to resonate with their audience by tickling the funny bone.
3.) Professional speakers tell stories about their marriage because spouse stories are funny.
4.) Stories about parenting also elicits side splitting laughter, children are born funny.
5.) The experience of growing up is without a doubt one of the funniest experiences to talk about.
6.) Dating is also a great topic to speak about because most people have dated at least once.
7.) On the job humour ranks right up there at the top as far as creating funny stories.
Humorous speakers are by far the most in demand speakers of today. Why?
If you can tell a story in a way to make people laugh, you are going to the bank to deposit more checks because corporations and organizations pay quite handsomely for speakers who can make their employees laugh.
Laughter is therapeutic and can make an otherwise dull speech a life changing experience.
I will share a story with you that happened in my youth. At the tender age of 10, my dad appointed me the store manager.
Our family grocery store did not compare to Safeway, Giant Foods, or Food Lion, in fact, it was the classic mom and pop community grocery store.
After arriving home from school one day, I put my school books away and grabbed the key to open the store because the bread delivery man had just arrived.
After opening the door, the delivery man placed the bread we ordered on the shelf, then he calculated the bill for the bread. I walked to the register and as I was about to place my hand on the register, I glimpsed something out the corner of my eye.
Within a split second my brain relayed a message to me, in fact it said, “Something is not right.” My legs relayed a message too, they said, “You had better run because were are going to leave you if you do not move right now.”
As I ran past the bread delivery man and out of the store, he followed me out and asked, “Why are you running out of the store?”
I looked at him and said, “Something is crawling on the cash register.” I did not pay the bread delivery man that day because I closed the store.
An hour later my father arrived from work and asked me, “Paul, why is the store closed?”
I said, “Dad, I have something to tell you.” My dad asked, “What is it son?”
“Dad, I am resigning as manager of our store because a snake was crawling on the cash register and it tried to bite me,” I said. In fact a black snake was crawling on the cash register and had it not been for my legs carrying me out of the store I would have been bitten.
This story like many others resonate with an audience because of its innocence and the humor involved in this true story. Trust me, at the time I was experiencing the reality of a snake on the register, it was not funny.
Add as much humor to your stories as possible and you will hear that wonderful sound, Ka Ching. You can be as funny as you want to be, just think about your past experiences, have fun.
